“If your devotional life is sleepy and tired—God is probably as tired of it as you are.” -Frank Laubach
The 60.60 Experiment is the introduction to the moment-by-moment awareness of God’s presence that helps to make our lives become more…well, alive! Alive and eternally significant (John 15:5). However, the individual who is not also in active pursuit of being transformed into the person God desires is very likely to walk away from the experiment frustrated and disappointed. Why? Well, because remaining open to God’s leading requires a few things from us:
1. Obedience. When we ask God what His will is for us moment-by-moment He is certainly going to, from time to time, direct us to do things that stretch us and make us uncomfortable. When we tell God no and refuse to be obedient, we slowly build a wall between us and God and it becomes harder and harder to hear God’s voice through that wall. 2. Complete Surrender. We can’t serve two masters (Luke 16:13). If you are living in sinful patterns, then you are equally as effective in building that wall between you and God. We’re all going to mess up and God is faithful to forgive, but we must be in active pursuit of Godly living in order to break down the wall and learn to hear God’s voice. 3. Know God. If we desire to discern whether it is truly God speaking to us, then we must begin to understand the character of God. There are too many Christ-followers today who associate interaction with God with dry, boring and regimented disciplines. We end up feeling guilty when we don’t live by those disciplines and so we settle for living a faith that is only a shell of what God desires for us. The truth is, God is a relational God and wants to interact with us in relational ways.
This page is designed to give you some ideas for creative and relational encounters with God. Not all of the ideas will interest you, and that’s OK. Try them. Mix them up. See which ones work best to bring about spiritual transformation in your life. I pray that these ideas will breathe life into your relationship with God.
Reading
Reading is a great way to connect with God. Whether you are reading the Bible or other books about faith, it is helpful to remember that God is right there with you, reading along.
Don’t enjoy reading? Or maybe you just don’t have time to read. That’s OK. There are a ton of excellent books available as audiobooks. In fact, the most excellent book of all is available for your iPod: the Bible!
Are you an artist? That, of course, includes music, dance, theater, creative writing (short stories, poetry, etc.) visual arts (sketching, painting, digital, pottery, etc.) and any other forms of creative expression. If you are, then you should consider how the art that you create may be a form of interaction with YOUR Creator!
God created us to have relationships—good, strong, loving, God-honoring relationships. In fact, it is part of God’s plan that we experience His love through the interaction we share with others—both by giving and receiving.
